• Have you ever pondered the thought of 'What exactly do all those letters mean?' To earn a designation or certification, a REALTOR® must complete coursework and demonstrate required specific skills, performance and knowledge in a particular area of the real estate industry. Some designations or certifications require a REALTOR® to have a specific number of closed transactions before they can qualify to take the final exam. The acronyms for designations are acquired after taking specialized courses offered by the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR)’s nine affiliated institutes, societies and councils. These courses are only available to real estate agents who have earned the right to distinguish themselves as REALTORS® by becoming members of the NAR According to NAR spokesperson Wendy Harper, the three most important accreditations for most homebuyers are the GRI, the CRS and the ABR.
